A few weeks ago I went over to Valdez, which is the northern most port on the Prince William Sound. It's a sleepy little town and it marks the end of the Alyeska Pipeline, but most of all...it is Heli-ski wonderland. The mountains shoot out of the ocean and can top 6,000 feet in Thompson Pass. The actual town doesn't really have any claim to fame other than it was leveled by a earthquake/tsunami in 1964 and then moved a couple miles away to higher ground.
This past Thursday we hiked into the Chugash National Forest and spent the night at the Trout Lake Cabin. We had a late start due to a detour to the vet, but the weather was warm and we we're just shy of a full moon to light our way there. After a couple blisters, some sore shoulders and six miles we set up camp and Sandy put together a cheesecake to celebrate my birthday. I think it could have rivaled any from Queens that I had growing up.
On Friday we woke up to another warm beautiful day and took a quick look around the area. There wasn't too much snow, so we skipped any actual skiing and let Mako run around on the frozen lake. With me a little older and our packs a little lighter we headed out about mid-day and we were home before 5. A short, but very fun trip.

Looks amazing. Glad you guys are having such fun and exploring quite a bit! Mako is skiing again... and no cliffs. :) Miss you guys!
