Bird Ridge

Yesterday was our first hike of the season and all three of us, needless to say, are pretty sore today. The hike was on the Bird Ridge Trail overlooking the Turnagain Arm and it was straight up and then straight down. We stopped about 250 feet short of our goal, which is a "nob" on the ridge at elevation 3,505. The last 250 feet will be a good reason to go back for more later in the summer season.

We had a strong wind coming from the east down the Arm, which brought some fun clouds racing through the mountains. Although the wind wasn't pleasant, at least it wasn't rain. Yesterday was the first day in about 5/6 days that it did not rain. With that being said, you still have to love Alaska, because we started the hike at 5:30 and the thought of headlamps didn't even cross our minds. In fact we probably won't need headlamps again until mid/late August...

MSP Shoot

This past Sunday the film company Match Stick Productions was here to film a few slightly crazy skiers fly off a hundred foot jump that Sandy's mountain built. It's a pretty big deal and hopefully some of the footage will end up in next year's movie and magazines. We were lucky with the weather since the sun hasn't been out since Sunday, but that's Alaska for you!!
Anyways, the pics are pretty fun and I hope you like them!!

Last Days of Heli-Ski

I went to Valdez in mid-February and joined up with Valdez Heli-Camps to help out the owner with some sales/customer service work and maybe get some skiing in on the side. As usual, I didn't get in as many days in as I would of liked, but those days that I did ski were pretty amazing.

Here are some pictures from the last week that I was over there:
