Bird Ridge

Yesterday was our first hike of the season and all three of us, needless to say, are pretty sore today. The hike was on the Bird Ridge Trail overlooking the Turnagain Arm and it was straight up and then straight down. We stopped about 250 feet short of our goal, which is a "nob" on the ridge at elevation 3,505. The last 250 feet will be a good reason to go back for more later in the summer season.

We had a strong wind coming from the east down the Arm, which brought some fun clouds racing through the mountains. Although the wind wasn't pleasant, at least it wasn't rain. Yesterday was the first day in about 5/6 days that it did not rain. With that being said, you still have to love Alaska, because we started the hike at 5:30 and the thought of headlamps didn't even cross our minds. In fact we probably won't need headlamps again until mid/late August...

Great photos, how long does the snow stick around?

There's a lot still up high, but it'll melt out on the sunnier aspects. There will probably still be some snow on the north facing aspects all summer. I'm heading out to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge tomorrow for training. I'll be sure to post more when i get back next week!!
