Mom and Dad Bruer are here in Southwestern Colorado and taking in the diversity of the mountains, desert and plateaus that make up the area. They have timed the trip to coincide with the peak of the fall colors and the Aspens did not disappoint.
This past weekend Mom, Dad, Sandy and I went south to Durango to catch a 19th century coal powered train on the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The train is on a narrow gauge rail, which has 36 inches between the rails instead of the normal 4 feet 6 inches. The narrow gauge rail allows a tighter turning radius through the canyons and passes, which is needed for some tight turns.
From the train ride we moved on to Mesa Verde National Park where took a tour around the park, enjoyed the sites and learned some history. The weather was a bit colder than anticipated and the wind didn't help. It's a beautiful and amazing place. Here are some pictures.
